Katja is an experienced scenographer and costume artist working across theatre, film, installation, and site‑specific performance. Her practice is grounded in visual storytelling, material-led design, and collaboration with communities, artists, and creative teams. She is strongly commited to new Australian work, accessibility in design, and multidisciplinary approaches. She is also a highly specialised leatherworker with a studio practice in Port Kembla (www.kattasche.com).

Australian companies and places that have shaped her practice include Belvoir, Tamarama Rock Surfers, Darlinghurst Theatre, Legs on the Wall, Stalker Theatre/ Box of Birds, Shopfront Theatre, De Quincey Co, Merrigong Theatre Company, Sydney Festival, Bundanon Trust, the Australian Maritime Museum and Old Parliament House. Overseas credits include production designs for Studiobuehne Berlin and Artisti Senza Frontiere in Italy.

She is a lecturer for Theatre Craft: Installation Design at UOW and a long member of Belvoir Education (set design).

Current theatre works in development are Storyland for Merrigong Theatre Company, ‘Dead Horse Gap’ with Crimson Rosella Creative Adventures, ‘Small Blue Thing’ with Box of Birds/ Stalker Theatre for presentation in 2026 and 2027.
